En­er­gis­ing a fat fight

WITH child­hood obe­sity rates sky­rock­et­ing and Bri­tish young­sters big­ger con­sumers of sugar-loaded, high-caf­feine en­ergy drinks than other chil­dren in Europe, Prime Min­is­ter Theresa May has thrown her weight be­hind a ban on sales of the drinks to ju­nior con­sumers.

“With thou­sands of young peo­ple reg­u­larly con­sum­ing en­ergy drinks, of­ten be­cause they are sold at cheaper prices than soft drinks, we will con­sult on ban­ning the sale (to) chil­dren,” Ms May said. It fol­lows con­cern from pub­lic fig­ures such as chef Jamie Oliver.
