AFTER a year’s worth of pursuits, managers of the Horse and Jockey Hotel Motel, Benita Kelly and Lisa Marston, are raising the stakes.

Pub-goers can now place bets with the all-new TAB services added to the pub.

Taking over the top jobs in December, the duo were in disbelief that betting services weren’t already at the venue.

“It’s a bit crazy to have a name like this and not offer betting,” Ms Kelly said.

“Bringing a TAB service was right up on the list of things to do since we’ve been here.”

The managers weren’t the only ones longing for a TAB.

“Every day I think I would get one or two people ask where they could make a bet,” Ms Kelly said.

Slight alterations were made to the bar, moving the ATM and covering the windows to fit the new equipment.

“It’s really opened the bar up,” Ms Kelly said.

Covering all the action, the station has nine screens for punters to enjoy.

They include six TAB race odds screens, three results and two airing the races, as well as a self-service terminal.

“Patrons are loving the selfservice feature and being able to place a bet when they like,” Ms Kelly said.

Since they took over at the start of the new year, the women have noticed new life in the pub.

“The restaurant has really picked up and we hope the TAB brings more growth to the business,” Ms Kelly said.

Ready just in time for the race that stops the nation, the pair are happy to show punters how to place a bet to be ready for the Melbourne Cup.

“Come in ahead of the race and we can give you a tutorial on the machines to keep the waiting times down,” Ms Kelly said.

However, it’s not just the horses punters can root for, Ms Kelly said the terminals could take bets on all sports, and even television shows.

“When they begin to air, you can even place bets on TV shows like My Kitchen Rules and The Voice,” she said.

The TAB is open seven days from 10am–10pm.
