Ready, set, go for Gin Gin Bandit
Competitors from as far as Melbourne to Warwick
A DRIVER known universally as the Gin Gin Bandit will be one of the major drawcards in round 2 of JP Racing Dragfest this weekend.
Peter Baczynski, the Gin Gin Bandit, competes at Warwick Dragway in at least one drag meeting a year.
At one time, he was competing in Warwick as part of the JP Racing One Eighth Mile Series, which was run at Benaraby in Gladstone, Willowbank, Roma and Warwick.
John Payne sponsored the former One Eighth Mile series and now is the naming rights sponsor for the two rounds of Dragfest in Warwick.
Baczynski grew up in the North Branch area at Maryvale.
He went to school at Warwick East State School and Warwick State High School.
Baczynski now lives at Gin Gin where he has a small cattle property and motel.
“I am keen to come back to Warwick to catch up with family and the Loy boys who run a good show at the drags,” he said.
“I won round one of the outlaws class earlier this year and I am coming back aiming for another win.”
There won’t be any plans on how to beat individual drivers.
“A drag racing driver just drives his car, you don’t have

time to think of anything else,” he said.
“I build my own car with the help of John Payne, it is about the passion to race your own car. Qualifying is to have fun but when you race, you race to win.
“I remember going down to Tom Parry in the Eighth Mile Series when he had a perfect pass, the exact same time he logged in.
“I have never got a perfect pass but have gone close.
“When I raced Rocket Rod from Willowbank, we both had perfect reaction times and I was two one thousandth of a second outside my logged in time and Rocket Rod was eight one thousand of a second outside his logged in time.
“I therefore won by six one thousandth of a second.”
Baczynski drives a LH Torano 434 Small Block Blown (supercharged).
“I do around 118mph in Warwick with a time of 5.6 seconds for the 200m (one eighth mile),” he said.
He has a best of 5.1 seconds at Benaraby.
READY TO RACE: The Gin Gin Bandit, Peter Baczynski, will be in his yellow supercharged LH Torana at Dragfest this weekend.
