SUNLIGHT REVEALS WHAT THE DARKNESS CONCEALS, SO FOLLOW THESE TIPS FOR FLAWLESS MAKE-UP BY DAY
Afinal check in the mirror before a night out reveals a little smudge there and some extra shimmer there — but don’t worry, you tell yourself, it’s dark outside.
But alas, the warm weather is here and it’s the season for long lunches, beach parties, music festivals and picnics.
You can’t hide under the cover of darkness when the sun is high, so how do you make sure your finish is flawless?
Make-up artist Rachael Brook says to start by checking your foundation alfresco.
“Never buy a foundation or leave the house without checking your make-up in natural light first,” Rachael says.
“You might be surprised at how misleading indoor lighting can be.”
Celebrity make-up artist Dale Dorning agrees. “Daylight shows everything,” he says.
“Apply your make-up in natural light to ensure it looks blended and is light flattering or refractive, not flat and cakey or shiny disco ball.”
Dale suggests a tinted BB cream for daywear as it keeps the skin hydrated and smooths over impurities with its skincoloured tone. Extra points if your BB cream has sunscreen for UV protection.
As for your make-up, Dale says glitter highlighter and OTT eyes belong to the night.
Instead, keep it natural with understated eye shadows, oil-free concealer and mineral powders.
“Less is more,” Dale says.
“Avoid smoky and over-shimmery eyes for daytime — opt for mid-toned shimmery matte hues.
“Monochrome eye shadow with a flirty lash always makes eyes stand out.
“Use an oil-free concealer before dusting colourless powder on the T-zone.
“Mineral powder foundation applied with a large kabuki brush will gently sculpt the face and it photographs beautifully.”
And don’t forget a little packet of tissues, baby wipes and concealer for when you’re in need of a quick dab or wipe.
“Baby wipes are great for make-up or alcohol mishaps,” Dale says. “Keep tissues for blotting and concealer for touch ups.”
