Old rivals will be revved up

Weekend Courier - - Street Watch -

with Josh Kennedy THE first three rounds of the season have again highlighted how tough – and even – things are in the AFL.

While a lot of the so-called experts suggest there have been several big upsets in the early part of the year, it’s becoming more and more evident that any team can beat any other on a particular day. There is no such thing as an upset.

Certainly that’s our attitude as we prepare for each game. We plan for the opposition to be at their best, analyse their strengths and plot to play to our own brand of football.

Last week against Richmond, we knew it was going to be a tough game.

The Tigers also went into the game having won their first two games, their midfield numbers were pretty high in those opening couple of rounds and they boast great talent at either end of the ground.

We were not surprised by the way they played, but thought we would still be able to get the job done.

Unfortunately, that was not the case and the Tigers kept their unbeaten record intact and we must now look at ways to improve.

This week we start the Easter round by playing Sydney at Subiaco oval on Thursday night.

That’s going to be pretty exciting and we are certainly looking forward to it.

After a loss you’re always keen to redeem yourself as quickly as possible and with a five-day break between the Richmond and Sydney game we do get that chance very rapidly.

Sydney will come to Perth looking for their first win of the season, but having lost their first three games is not a real indication of their talent.

We expect they will be extremely tough to beat, but we will be hoping to find a way.

The Swans will undoubtedly come with their trademark game plan. They will be tough around the contested ball, have some genuine firepower and class up forward where Buddy Franklin is the big focus but by no means a solo act.

They play a disciplined defensive game and it’s going to be a great challenge.

Our home crowd helped to get us over the line against St Kilda a couple of weeks ago, so we will be looking for them to be loud and supportive again on Thursday night.
