Po­lice at­tacked at out-of-con­trol party

PO­LICE of­fi­cers were at­tacked with bot­tles, bricks and wooden stakes while try­ing to break up sev­eral fights on a Waikiki street on Tues­day night.

About 11.25pm that night, po­lice were called to a home in Murchi­son Road af­ter re­ceiv­ing sev­eral re­ports of men fight­ing at a party.

They ar­rived to find 50 to 60 peo­ple on the street and sev­eral fights go­ing on.

It will be al­leged as po­lice went to as­sist one group of peo­ple, bot­tles, bricks and wooden stakes were thrown at them. Sev­eral po­lice ve­hi­cles re­ceived mi­nor dam­age in the in­ci­dent.

An out-of-con­trol gath­er­ing was de­clared and Re­gional Op­er­a­tions Group of­fi­cers at­tended to as­sist in dis­pers­ing the crowd.

A 22-year-old Bal­divis man was charged with crim­i­nal dam­age and a 16-year-old Caver­sham boy will be sum­monsed to ap­pear in court at a later date for tres­pass.
