FERRARI’S FINEST

Weekend Courier - - Driveway -

SOME cars few people even knew existed in Australia, let alone Perth, emerged at the recent Italian Car Day at Barbagallo Raceway.

Celebrating Ferrari’s 70th anniversary, it attracted a variety of Italian brands, among them De Tomaso, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati and Ducati and other motorcycles.

The star attraction was a Ferrari FXX, produced only in minute numbers and only for track use.

It uses some technology from the Enzo but includes some F1 components.

It has a 6.3litre V12 motor capable of producing nearly 500kW and is one of the rarest specimens on the planet.

The FXX first appeared in 2005 and about only 40 are built each year. Cost? Only $3.5 million. There was also a mean-looking white Lancia with a rego plate from Maine and all manner of Italy’s assorted finest on show and on track.

The arancini balls were excellent too.

The appearance of an FXX was an unexpected pleasure.
