Sweet six for dom­i­nant Sharks

IT was a su­per-sweet sixth pre­mier­ship in a row for the Coastal Sharks re­serve net­ball team re­cently.

Up against the West Coast War­riors in the big­gest game of the sea­son, the War­riors took the as­cen­dancy and the lead early, but the Sharks fought back to take the lead 15-9 at the first break.

It re­mained a six-goal lead at half­time after some pres­sure de­fence from both sides, which con­tin­ued well into the third quar­ter.

It was not un­til the fi­nal quar­ter when the Sharks be­gan to take con­trol and in­crease their lead, even­tu­ally tak­ing out the game 55-43 and be­ing crowned 2017 cham­pi­ons.

The Sharks’ Grace Parker dom­i­nated un­der the net, scor­ing 25 of 29 at 86 per cent, while Katie Swet­man and Mor­gan Mil­lar fin­ished with strong shoot­ing per­cent­ages of 79 and 78 per cent re­spec­tively.

Cap­tain Re­becca Nitschke, who was voted the match MVP, said they were proud to se­cure the ti­tle again, cit­ing strong team unity as one of the key fac­tors. “It feels awesome,” she said. “We have such a strong bond, we’re a re­ally united side.”

The Coastal Sharks net­ball re­gion cov­ers Fre­man­tle, Rock­ing­ham, Man­durah and Peel.
