Lotterywest grant will buy tractor

BIG BOOST FOR RIDING GROUP

TOY tractors are lots of fun but the real thing is even better, especially when it is given to help the community.

Peel Riding for the Disabled has received a $43,000 LotteryWest grant for the purchase of a tractor, four-wheel-drive vehicle and other equipment.

The vehicles and equipment will help with the management of their new home at Mead Farm, Leda, along with the everyday care needed for their horses.

Peel RDA Mead Farm co-ordinator Kristin Hosken said it was an exciting time for the group.

“Mead Farm (Lealholme), one of the original East Rockingham settlement properties, is now being reinvigorated as home to our riding and carriage programs as well as to the horses which make these programs possible,” she said.

“In the past, Peel RDA has had to employ contractors or hire vehicles for volunteer use in order to progress work on restoration of the property. “It’s been a costly exercise. “The tractor and tools provided by the Lotterywest Grant will allow volunteers to carry out regular horse keeping and property maintenance tasks such as slashing, creating firebreaks, moving hay, building fences and managing manure.

“Peel RDA is most grateful to Lotterywest and all those who participate in the games which raise funds for projects like ours and benefit WA volunteer organisations and d483574 the community we serve.”

Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby officially handed over the grant on behalf of Lotterywest.

“This much-needed funding will assist Peel RDA in caring for their horses and creating firebreaks on their farm site in Leda, ensuring they can keep delivering their program to local disabled adults and children in a safe environment.

“As local Member of Parliament I am proud to support the vital work Riding for the Disabled does with local kids and adults with special needs.”
