Isle site of the ‘iconic’ Coast home

The Max Christmas family home on the Isle of Capri represents the all-round lifestyle this unique seaside region is so well known for

HE’S the godfather of Gold Coast property, so it’s no surprise Max Christmas’ family home is something special.

The property veteran and former councillor has owned his tropical haven with wife Liz on the Isle of Capri since 1998.

He knows a winning location and he said his Amalfi Drive residence ticks all the boxes.

“It’s on the main river and has a northeast aspect,” Mr Christmas said.

“I’ve been on the Coast for over 60 years and I’ve grown up with the greenery, the river, canals, the whole Gold Coast lifestyle and this house definitely incorporates that lifestyle.

“It catches all the natural elements – the sun, the breeze, the northeast aspect – not many houses have all of those qualities, that true Gold Coast atmosphere.”

While the house has been modernised over the years, the outlook over the river has only got better.

“It’s changed as more high-rises have come along – it’s very attractive looking out to all the lights at night time,” Mr Christmas said.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house is described as a “secluded sanctuary” with the new owner sure to make the most of the privacy and tranquillity on offer. “It’s got some beautiful trees and it’s almost like a rainforest, it’s very unusual,” he said.

Out the back you are spoiled for choice with plenty of space to entertain and unwind.

“With a lot of outdoor areas on the Coast you have to be aware of the southeast winds as you usually can’t use the riverfront but this house is protected by the trees and plants,” Mr Christmas said.

Relax in the riverfront pool and entertain on the deck or covered al fresco area where a servery window makes accommodating guests a breeze.

Back inside, and attention to detail is obvious. From the marble benches in the kitchen, the high-end materials in the bathrooms, through to the timber accents, including plantation shutters and floorboards, no expense has been spared in the construction of this immaculate home.

Mr Christmas and his wife have five children between them and said the house had been the perfect family home. “It’s a real entertainer’s home,” he said. “It’s been the family gathering place for 20 years.”

Mr Christmas raved about the Isle of Capri and said he was only selling to downsize. He plans to stay on the island.

“In my opinion it’s the best place to live on the Gold Coast,” he said. “It’s a family area.”

Eddie Wardale of Kollosche Prestige Agents is marketing the property.

“Situated in an enviable location, take advantage of being within easy walking distance to iconic Surfers Paradise, yet still make the most of the privacy and tranquillity on offer due to its intelligent design and the lush landscaped gardens which encase this immaculate family home,” Mr Wardale said.
