House has the feel of tropical paradise
James and Carmel Taylor have built their own private paradise on the Isle of Capri. The house has a cinema, lap pool and five oversized bedrooms with canal frontage
SITUATED on prime waterfront land at Isle of Capri, this spacious family residence was the perfect home for two school-aged boys to grow up in.
Now James and Carmel Taylor’s sons are older, but the couple still has fond memories of their lifestyle.
Mr Taylor, a builder, demolished the original house and rebuilt one of his own design a decade ago. “A spacious family home, that was the main aim, I wanted to try and incorporate everything I could to get the spacious feel, but also to be able to have some separate areas for a growing family,” Mr Taylor said.
A cinema, lap pool, five bedrooms, five bathrooms and multiple living areas later, the Taylor family achieved just that.
The family are keen boaties, and made the most of their canal frontage. “The boys had their own little boat they could take out with friends,” Mr Taylor said. “We did hope that they would work hard at their studies, so that was part of the incentive for them to get their homework done, and then go out on the boat.”
Mr Taylor also moored his own boat at the private pontoon. But you don’t even have to get your feet wet to lap up the river setting. “There’s a big picture window as you walk in. The idea with the designer was to raise the entry, and open the front door to see the waterway and a white sandy beach with coconut trees,” Mr Taylor said.
