RE the campaign against the ILS system, Wes Borg stated that he was 1km from Tallebudgera Creek and he heard the plane coming into land at approx 1500ft, so he decided to join the campaign with the NIMBYs (Ironman steels for fight, GCB, 18/10/16).

Wes, you are welcome to meet me at the Caltex garage on Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads.

On Wednesday, nine planes took off over our house at 800ft full throttle from 6-6.20am.

Would you be able to handle this noise like we have to do?

By the way Wes, I am an RAAF

returned serviceman, I do know what I am talking about. NOEL FRANCISCO, GOLD COAST

I have been a quiet supporter of ‘No cruise ship terminal’, but it appears the Gold Coast council minus Cr Glenn Tozer wants to go ahead with a feasibility study on whether this will work (Smooth sailing for terminal proposal, GCB, 19/10/16).

I would have thought Mayor Tom Tate would have asked for expressions of interest from cruise ship companies before he proceeds with this ridiculous idea. It is apparent that none have come forth as yet. Is this due to the berth being in open seas?

Can someone please tell me if there is another port in the world where a cruise ship berths in open seas. I am of the belief that they port in sheltered waters.

As many hundred ships go by, according to Cr Tate, then why aren’t they trialling a drop-off through their tenders?

Oh, forgot, Seaway can be dangerous with shifting sands, and huge rogue waves.

If Cr Tate is so concerned with employment, I suggest he employs more staff and fix our local roads, pot holes, footpaths – taking out possible injury claims – parks and gardens maintained.

When the feasibility study for the CST shows that this cannot go ahead, will those who were vocal refund me part of the $875,000 that I did not approve?

As the old saying goes, empty vessels make the most sound. K.J.B., SOUTHPORT

I THINK we’ve seen enough blood shed by civilians in the Syrian conflict.

As the Syrian and Russian regimes are fighting rebels, what if those rebels considered how much it is hurting civilians, surrendered and gave up their weapons?

Anyone with more knowledge than me on the issue and the likely implications of such a scenario would be able to give an idea of what might happen next.

Because so long as the rebels keep on fighting the Syrian regime, this conflict will never ever stop. FRED, GOLD COAST
