AQUAMAN’S DAD IN GC FILM
ONCE Were Warriors star Temuera Morrison will play Aquaman’s father in the latest blockbuster movie being filmed on the Gold Coast.
The New Zealand veteran joins the cast of the DC blockbuster, as one of Aquaman’s producers has treated fans to their first look at star Jason Momoa swimming on the ocean floor as Aquaman.
Test footage filmed on February 27 and posted online earlier this month by Justice League director and Aquaman producer Zack Snyder shows a fishtailed Momoa swimming along the bottom of the sea towards someone on a throne.
Currently y in p pre-productionp at Village Roadshow Studios, Aquaman also o stars Amber Heard as Aquaman’san’s love interest Mera, Willem Dafoe as scientist Dr Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Aquaman’s villainous half-brotherlf-brother Orm and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.
Cameras meras are due e to begin rollolling onn the first stand-alone film about Aquaman, the ki king of Atlantis, at V Village Roadshow S Studios early next mo month. The film w will tell the story of A Arthur Curry, who learns he is the h heir to the u underwater kingdom of At Atlantisl and must step forward to lead his people as Aquaman, a hero to the world.
Morrison will play Aquaman and his half-brother Orm’s dad, lighthouse keeper Thomas Curry, with director James Wan rumoured to have cast Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s waterbreathing mum, Atlanna.
Morrison, 56, pictured left, is best known for his award-winning portrayal of violent father Jake ‘The Muss’ Heke in the confronting New Zealand drama
Once Were Warriors. He earned a new legion of fans after playing bounty hunter Jango Fett in 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Commander Cody in 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
Morrison also provided the voice of the clone troopers in Star Wars films and voiced the character of Chief Tui in Disney’s recent ani- mated hit Moana. Aquaman will now open in US cinemas on December 21 next year during the peak Christmas holiday box-office season instead of its previously scheduled release date of October 5, 2018.
The date change will pit the DC Comics film against Marvel’s new Spider-Man movie from Sony Animation, also due for release on December 21, 2018.
Jason Momoa will appear as Aquaman in the upcoming Justice League movie, due out in November.
James Cameron’s Avatar sequel was also expected to open on December 21, 2018, but Cameron has now ruled out a 2018 release date for the film.
