WHIP-SMART AND BEAUTIES TO BOOT

Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin - - NEWS - NICHOLAS MCELROY

IT might not be a home where the buffalo roam, but the Australian Rodeo Queen Quest is more than happy to be based on the Gold Coast

President Sharon Piggott – who has hosted the contest on the Glitter Strip for more than 20 years – said she could think of no better place to keep it country.

“We do it for the glitz and glamour,” Ms Piggott said.

“If we did it in a smaller town we’d just meet the mayor and visit a cattle stud.

“And these girls can visit a cattle stud whenever they like.”

One of six contestants from across the country will be crowned Rodeo Queen at tonight’s pageant at the Mantra Legends Hotel in Surfers Paradise.

Ms Piggott said the winner will win a trip to the US and Canada and promote Australia at some of the biggest rodeos in the world.

“The rodeos are huge, they can attract up to 60,000 people per day and these girls will be showing off Australia in front of them,” Ms Piggott said.

“We’re looking for a real Aussie girl with a bubbly personality.”
