WE WILL REMEMBER THEM ALL
SERGEANT Craig Thomas will be remembering his mates today at the Southport RSL Remembrance Day service at Anzac Park, honouring those who sacrificed their lives.
Sgt Thomas, Director of the Southport RSL Sub Branch, has served with the army twice in East Timor and Iraq.
“I know many soldiers who have lost their lives,” he said. “I am a sergeant in the regular army and will be thinking of all my mates today.”
The service will commemorate the 99th anniversary of Remembrance Day with a traditional ceremony.
“It will be a straight down the line military service,” Sgt Thomas said.
“Not with all the bells and whistles as I think a lot of the real meaning can get lost in that.
“It’s about respectfully remembering the service men and women who gave their lives for this country in all wars.
“We thank everyone – all the soldiers lying in unmarked graves, all the soldiers we lost, everyone who sacrificed their lives for this country – they are the real people we need to thank.”
The Southport RSL will hold their Remembrance Day ceremony at Anzac Park, Southport at 10.30am followed by light refreshments at the club.
