Jailed over freak death

A MELBOURNE woman has been jailed af­ter driv­ing at her abu­sive part­ner in a kinder­garten car park and slam­ming into a sign that fell and killed him.

Jessie Donker, 31, pleaded guilty to man­slaugh­ter af­ter the parking sign struck Richard Pow­ell, 32, as it top­pled and cleaved open his head at Sun­bury in Jan­uary 2017.

Donker had spent the night sleep­ing in her car at the car park, one of her reg­u­lar “haunts” af­ter be­ing as­saulted by Mr Pow­ell. She was sen­tenced to five years in jail and must serve at least two years be­fore be­ing el­i­gi­ble for pa­role.
