COAST GIRL FLYING FLAG FOR WALLABIES

Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin - - NEWS - BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

AS the Wallabies take the field at Cbus Stadium tonight one Gold Coast girl will be cheering louder than most.

Helensvale student Sarah Qaranivalu has been chosen as flag-bearer for the team’s clash against Argentina, a month after being diagnosed with a serious heart condition.

She has always loved the game but her collapse at a school athletics carnival and diagnosis with a heart rhythm disorder has put her rugby career on hold.

Mum Sam said when organisers reached out it was the perfect thing to lift the 14year-old’s spirits.

“Her life has sort of been turned upside down, but she’s a courageous young girl so she’s taking it all in her stride,” she said. “It’s been tough and this has just made things good for her again.”

Now Sarah is looking forward to supporting the team she loves and hopefully getting back on the field again.

“I’m pretty happy but a bit nervous, there’s going to be a big crowd there,” she said.

The Wallabies v Argentina kicks off at Robina at 8pm.
