Fences up at ex-KFC

THE re­de­vel­op­ment of the old Labrador KFC site into a $136mil­lion, 35-storey tower is one step closer.

De­vel­oper Sun­land erected fences around Marine Pa­rade site.

Ground test­ing will be car­ried out be­fore the for­mer fast food restau­rant build­ing is de­mol­ished.

Sun­land’s pro­ject has been ap­proved by the Gold Coast City Coun­cil and the devel­op­ment giant is un­der­stood to be re­fin­ing its de­sign.

There are no im­me­di­ate plans to be­gin con­struc­tion.

In 2016 the Gold Coast Bul­letin re­vealed the pro­posed tower would have 217 units, made up of 169 two-bed­room units, 69 three-bed­room apart­ments and six four-bed­room units.

Last year KFC re­lo­cated the pop­u­lar eatery, which opened in 1969, to an Ash­more site on Olsen Ave.
