“I first started to notice my skin was sagging when I’d lost 25kg,” says Miriam Pohto. “I was surprised because I’d been doing boot camp six days a week for months and I’d assumed that would prevent it.
“I feel frustrated and disappointed that my body doesn’t reflect the hard work and effort I’ve put in. I’m also sad I let myself get so big that I’ll never look like someone who never gained weight.
“But I’ve noticed that building muscle in my biceps and triceps has reduced the amount of loose skin on my arms. There’s still a lot there, but I’m pleased with the changes.
“Despite the loose skin, losing weight was worth it. I’m more active, I feel fitter and healthier, and I can play with my two-year-old daughter without struggling. My weight loss was about getting back on track so I could live longer for her.”
