There’s noth­ing like a ma­jor life event to in­spire you to feel your best. In an ideal world we’d al­ways strive to be at a healthy weight and place, but for many of us a dead­line can be an amaz­ing mo­ti­va­tor. And re­search has shown over and over the power of mo­ti­va­tion in the pur­suit of weight loss.

Our cover star An­drea Salmeron (page 14) em­bod­ies this is­sue’s “big event” theme. An­drea is count­ing down to her wed­ding and she joined Weight Watch­ers to help her feel her best when she says “I do” later this year. Mem­ber Vic­to­ria Dun­can shares how she got ready for her Ve­gas wed­ding and is now al­most at Goal (page 28) and Julie Mendy­gral re­veals how she lost 41.6kg (page 36).

Mean­while, I’m writ­ing this in Europe. This was a ma­jor life event and took three years’ plan­ning. We’re here to see my el­dest daugh­ter, who is in Spain for a year. Know­ing I would be faced with a bread, cheese and ham diet, I spent the months lead­ing up to the trip vig­i­lantly track­ing. Now I’m here, I’m us­ing our sto­ries to en­sure I don’t go too off track (I’ll share some hol­i­day tips in the Oc­to­ber is­sue). In the mean­time, en­joy!
