Students get into swing

THE Shenton College Swing Band proudly represented Perth at a music festival in China and performed for a TV audience of 14 million people last month.

The band performed to a live audience of 2000 people at the Chengdu International Sister City Youth Music Festival.

It was the first time an Australian city had been invited to perform at the event.

Shenton College associate principal Christopher Hill said the students gave an inspired performance that had the crowd applauding from the start.

“The Shenton Swing Band was wonderfully received, particularly as we had two band leaders introducing the show, one of whom spoke Chinese,” Mr Hill said.

“On the final night they actually warmed up the crowd with an Aussie, Aussie, Aussie - Oi, Oi, Oi. They were great ambassadors.”
