SCARBOROUGH Netball Club’s division ones beat a visiting Malaysian team by 10 goals at John XXIII College in a friendly last Wednesday night.

The Malaysian team is in Perth preparing for the Asian Netball Championships in Singapore from September 7-14.

The championships are played every four years and this year’s winner will qualify for the World Championships in Sydney next year.

Malaysia, who last won the Asian championships in 1985, will play Sri Lanka, Brunei, Chinese Taipei and Myanmar in Group B.

Scarborough coach Kath Hewett said the Malaysian team was stronger than she expected.

“They were very competitive but had a very different style to our game because they’re very zone- orientated,” she said.
