EQUIPPED with a pencil, paper and pair of scissors, UK artist Rebecca J Coles intricately dissects small details of colour, imagery and text out of flat sheets of paper or postage stamps.

Rebecca then transforms these everyday objects into threedimensional magical silhouettes, with each piece being composed of hundreds if not thousands of profiles that are then sculpted, pinned and encased into stunning art forms.

Each shape in ‘Fiery Skipper’ (pictured) is hand drawn and then hand cut from carefully selected paper, focusing on recycling a medium that would otherwise be discarded and lost.

Rebecca’s first Australian exhibition will be held jointly with Lyn Franke and exclusive to Fusion Fine Arts, from September 18-October 18.

The gallery is at 121A Hay Street, Subiaco and open Monday-Friday 8am-4pm, Saturday 12-4pm (Sunday and after hours by appointment).
