‘POOR COUSIN’ HAS PROSPECTS
MORE shops have moved out of Avion Way, Claremont. There’s not a lot of foot traffic heading down Times Square and retailers should be envious of their Bay View Terrace and St Quentin Avenue neighbours. More than $4.2 million was spent on Bay View Terrace a couple of years ago and before that St Quentin Avenue got a new shopping centre and apartments. But Avion Way will no longer be the poor cousin with more than $400,000 being spent on making it one-way and beautifying each end with public art. Debate that less vehicle access will drive people away and that the money is going straight in to the pocket of one landlord is ridiculous. People spend money, not cars and if one landlord is willing to work on filling empty shops, why should he be punished?
