Knights keep up winning charge

Western Suburbs Weekly - - - with Daniel Bodycoat

WESTERN Knights continued their undefeated streak in round 20 of the State League division 1 competition, beating UWA- Nedlands FC 2-0.

It was a dominant performance but the score line did not accurately reflect the game.

The first chance of the game resulted in the first goal of the game.

Steve Purton charged into the box early in the half.

His shot deflected off the keeper straight into the path of Johny Mirco.

It was a simple task for Mirco to tap the ball over the line.

Moments later, a UWA player slipped and Jamie Ricks was presented with miles of space.

However, his decisionmaking was slightly off as he opted to shoot rather than set Mirco up for a strike. Western Knights were getting a lot of joy down the left-hand side and dominating all over the park, although they did struggle to put the finishing touch on their attacks.

Paul Lloyd absolutely dominated throughout the first half. He continually dribbled past his defender and created numerous opportunities at goal.

Testament to the Knights’ dominance was the fact that the ball rarely entered their defensive half.

Lloyd scored his welldeserved goal in the second half.

He spun and shot on the edge of the box before the goalkeeper could even react.

The score would remain 0- 2 for the rest of the game. The horrendous weather and rain forced the supporters to find shelter but the Knights’ players battled on.

They handled the conditions far better than their opponents.

The Knights will look to continue this form and carry this momentum into the last two games of their season.
