Premier’s past as tennis ball boy
COTTESLOE Tennis Club boasts several high profile members such as Premier Colin Barnett, Alicia Molik and Margaret Court.
But while the latter became grand slam players, Mr Barnett says he peaked at becoming a ball kid.
“I spent a lot of time on the court as a kid and should be a better player than I am,” he said.
“I used to tell my dad ‘Wimbledon, here I come’.
“I was a ball boy at Kings Park (for the Davis Cup).”
Mr Barnett was a guest at the Cottesloe Tennis Club President’s Breakfast, rubbing shoulders with players including Argentinean Lito Alvarez, who now lives in Perth, and Molik, who was flanked by her husband Tim Sullivan and second baby son.
