Cap­tain keeps team on toes

DAVIS Cup cap­tain Pat Rafter sent home the Aus­tralian fit­ness trainer last week.

Coach Josh Ea­gle revealed at a Cottes­loe Ten­nis Club Pres­i­dent’s Break­fast at Royal Fresh­wa­ter Bay Yacht Club last Wed­nes­day that the trainer left, when de­scrib­ing how tough his cap­tain was on the team.

“He’s very tough on the guys es­pe­cially,” Ea­gle said. “He has high stan­dards on and off the court and he’s not afraid to make tough de­ci­sions.” FOR­MER Davis Cup player John Alexan­der re­minded 2014 team mem­ber Sam Groth of a hand-writ­ten letter he re­ceived from him about 12 years ago.
