KNIGHTS FINISH ON A HIGH

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Front Page - with Daniel Bodycoat

WESTERN Knights Soccer Club played their last game of the 2014 State League Division 1 competition, beating Dianella White Eagles SC 2-0 in round 22 at Dianella Reserve.

The ground was in horrid condition, with sand covering most of the pitch.

The weather also made it difficult for the players as the temperature was around 30C.

There were very few clear chances for both sides in the first half, but Ivan Zuvela hit the crossbar from a free kick that was miles out.

His driving shot seemed destined for the back of the net.

The Knights dominated the first half, with Dianella only looking threatening on counter-attacks.

In the second half, Connor Thurston took a free kick on the halfway line.

The Dianella keeper completely misread the play and the ball floated into the back of the net.

A disastrous mistake had put Western Knights in the lead.

In the following minutes, Western Knights continued to put the pressure on.

Multiple attacks forced the keeper to make saves and the defence to clear the ball.

Another free kick caused trouble for Dianella as a number of Knights players had opportunities to score the second goal.

The Dianella defenders were really under the pump.

Western Knights were able to get that elusive second goal.

It was a well-deserved goal for an absolute legend of the Western Knights Soccer Club.

Dave Anall, in his last game for the club, scored a quality goal from a free kick.

The ball smashed against the crossbar and bounced over the line.

It was a great goal and capped off a sensational career.

The 2-0 victory for Western Knights has ended a good campaign for the club, but they will definitely look to improve and push for the title next year.

The fourth place on the ladder was satisfactory, but they know that they are capable of much more in the future.
