Town sees fit to build a gym

THE Town of Clare­mont will spend $20,000 on gym equip­ment and mod­i­fi­ca­tions to the Meals on Wheels build­ing to cre­ate a well­ness cen­tre for staff.

Div­i­dends from a mu­tual fund will pay for the work and tread­mills, cross train­ers, bikes and other equip­ment that a fit­ness cen­tre is sell­ing cheap.

Coun­cil­lor Alas­tair Tul­loch said peo­ple who got reg­u­lar ex­er­cise were more ef­fi­cient but Cr Peter Ed­wards said it was not the coun­cil’s re­spon­si­bil­ity to pro­vide a gym for staff.
