ASTRONOMER Greg Quicke will spend this week talking to people at the Perth Royal Show about the place he loves – Broome. The Broome local of 33 years is part of the guest town exhibition. Mr Quicke started his Astro Tours business 19 years ago after spending years sleeping under the stars. “I worked on a pearl diving station for 15 years living in a swag under the stars,” he said. “I’ve always been interested in stars. They are part of everything for me.” Mr Quicke takes his eight big telescopes ranging from 8 to 16 inches and mounted binocular systems on tours that take place in the Kimberley region. “I want to get across to people that we are all on a planet that’s turning around the sun,” he said. “You can actually watch the Earth turn and go around the sun.”
