Humorous Huahes has point to prove

WHILE some might think giving up a cushy job in radio and television is a stupid idea, for comedian Dave Hughes, it turned out to be one of his best decisions.

The likeable larrikin will bring his Pointless show to Perth and after starting his career here 21 years ago, the comedian said there was no better place to start the tour.

“If I told myself 15 years ago that in 15 years time I would be giving away well-paid jobs to do this, I would have slapped myself in the face,” he said.

“But I’m happy with my decision and am loving touring.

“I love the Regal Theatre in Subiaco, it’s an absolute ripper.

“Perth audiences are always great; they make you feel welcome and my stand-up career did start in Northbridge in Pockets Pool Hall in 1993, so I’m very happy to be back there. We are going to have a blast.”

Hughes said unlike his first Perth performance where he bombed out, audiences could expect the best version of himself.

“My first gig was miserable,” he said. “I walked off stage and could have quit on the spot. Thankfully it’s gone better than that.

“I reckon anyone who has seen me before and liked what they saw will love this new show, and if you haven’t, you will be pleasantly surprised.”

As for the future, he hinted a movie deal would be good, though nobody had asked him to audition yet. Until then, he can’t wait to get here. “People turn up in Perth, which is great,” he said.

“I’m not sure if the mining money has run out or not, but they’re just fun and everyone is attractive in Perth; it must be the weather.”
