JOHN Hughes won the 17th annual Lilly Street Lasagna (it’s been spelt wrong for 17 years, why change it?) Bake-off last month, while the weird lasagne prize went to Taylor Baker. Lilly Street was closed for the cooking competition that attracted about 60 entries this year with three judges making the final decision on whose name would make the lasagne tin perpetual trophy for 2014. About 600 people, including Fremantle MHR Melissa Parke, filled the street, which was oozing with lasagne. The tradition started 17 years ago when organiser Jenny Baker was asked to determine the best lasagne made by two neighbours. “I said ‘neither, I make the best lasagne’,” Baker said. 2014 Christmas Party at Dumas House last week. Mr Barnett said previous years the Government had gone all out with an oyster shucker at a venue but “now we’re broke so we’re doing it in the courtyard with takeaway pizza and rough red”. The band played Van Morrison’s Brown EyedGirl under the Premier’s instruction.
