Gym gets go-ahead at last

A 24-HOUR gym will open on Stirling Highway in Claremont after councillors agreed that Snap Fitness owner Amar Patel’s changes to his original application were sufficient.

Mr Patel said there would be 30 car bays and people risked having their memberships revoked if they did not stick to the gym’s strict parking policy.

But Cr Chris Mews said the parking provision was “grossly inadequate”.

Claremont rejected Mr Patel’s change of use request at 301 Stirling Highway in April but the Planning Minister overruled the decision.

It paved the way for the gym owner to submit a development application for the business.

“Parking has been the subject of concerns from residents,” Mr Patel said.

“We have 11 gyms and have had no complaints from residents or councils.”

Cr Jill Goetze said noise and parking concerns had been dealt with in the new application.
