A THIEF stole a $2000 mountain bike from medical staff at St John of God Hospital between 7am and 11.30am on December 10. Police said the bicycle had been secured with a heavy-duty chain, which was cut. The crime is not thought to be linked to the theft of a $3800 mountain bike from nearby Wembley Cycles, Cambridge Street overnight on December 8, when a back storeroom’s door was smashed, activating an alarm.
A GROUP of eight Christians protesting against Federal Government asylum seeker policy were arrested at the Rokeby Road electorate offices of Curtin MHR Julie Bishop on December 10. The five women and three men, all from suburbs across Perth, were from the group Love Makes a Way, and entered the offices about 3.25pm, staying there despite negotiations with State and Federal police lasting about 90 minutes. The protesters were charged with trespass and bailed on the provision they did not return to the offices, before they reappear at Perth Magistrates Court on December 31.
