A THIEF stole a $2000 moun­tain bike from med­i­cal staff at St John of God Hos­pi­tal be­tween 7am and 11.30am on De­cem­ber 10. Po­lice said the bi­cy­cle had been se­cured with a heavy-duty chain, which was cut. The crime is not thought to be linked to the theft of a $3800 moun­tain bike from nearby Wem­b­ley Cy­cles, Cam­bridge Street overnight on De­cem­ber 8, when a back store­room’s door was smashed, ac­ti­vat­ing an alarm.

A GROUP of eight Chris­tians protest­ing against Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment asy­lum seeker pol­icy were ar­rested at the Rokeby Road elec­torate of­fices of Curtin MHR Julie Bishop on De­cem­ber 10. The five women and three men, all from sub­urbs across Perth, were from the group Love Makes a Way, and en­tered the of­fices about 3.25pm, stay­ing there de­spite ne­go­ti­a­tions with State and Fed­eral po­lice last­ing about 90 min­utes. The pro­test­ers were charged with tres­pass and bailed on the pro­vi­sion they did not re­turn to the of­fices, be­fore they reap­pear at Perth Mag­is­trates Court on De­cem­ber 31.
