Book­shop clos­ing after 27 years

EL­IZ­A­BETH’S Book­shop on Rokeby Road will close its doors on Jan­uary 31 after more than 27 years in Su­bi­aco.

Gen­eral man­ager Kim Isaac said they made the dif­fi­cult decision to shut after the rent had be­come too high com­pared to low trade.

“It is hard enough sell­ing books th­ese days with­out the re­tail land­scape de­clin­ing like in Su­bi­aco,” Mr Isaac said.

“It is sad, but we hope peo­ple will stay loyal to our other lo­ca­tions in the city and Fre­man­tle.”

Toy World on Hay Street closed yes­ter­day and The Glitter Co jew­ellery store re­cently posted a ‘clos­ing down sale’ sign in the win­dow.

Bistro de Artistes owner Alain Fabregues said he knew of at least three neigh­bour­ing busi­nesses that were look­ing to move out of Su­bi­aco.

The Glitter Co has ad­ver­tis­ing a ‘clos­ing down’ sale.
