Charges follow gate damage
A GIRRAWHEEN man (37) charged with the theft of a Hyundai Santa Fe 4WD that crashed into gates at Subiaco Oval will reappear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
It will be alleged the man was in the car with a female driver when it hit the historic gates near the Hay Street /Haydn Bunton Drive intersection about 1.30am last Sunday.
The 4WD was being pursued by police when it was seen near Coghlan and Roberts roads in Subiaco about 10 minutes earlier
The man was arrested near the crash shortly after and was charged with having an outstanding warrant, car theft and unlawful possession of stolen goods.
The woman, whose identity was known to police, escaped on foot and she was still being sought yesterday.
Extensive damage to the gates’ limestone supports was secured by SES personnel but the oval-based WA Football Commission was unavailable to comment on what would be done with the structure.
