Proposal to rezone Captain site quashed

WOOLWORTHS’ application to rezone and redevelop the Captain Stirling site was rejected at a City of Nedlands council meeting on December 16.

Council rejected the proposal because the rezoning would “result in a centre that lacked diversity and not genuinely contribute to meeting dwelling (residential) targets”, that the traffic assessment was unsatisfactory and information provided did not address integration with the site’s current built form. Nedsavers co-ordinator Barry Nunn reignited his ‘Say no to Captain Stirling overdevelopment’ campaign from when Woolworths attempted to redevelop the site in 2012.
