Iconic clock to be restored

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Western Opinion -

THE City of Subiaco will spend almost $100,000 to repair and restore its iconic Fallen Soldiers Memorial clock tower in Rankin Gardens on the corner of Rokeby and Hamersley roads.

Subiaco councillors awarded the $97,737 tender to Duratec Australia specialist contractors.

The City received a $55,000 Lotterywest grant to contribute to the structural works and heritage restoration.

Construction will start after Australia Day and will be completed in March.

The clock tower was unveiled in 1923 to honour the fallen soldiers of WWI.

It now commemorates soldiers from WWII and the Borneo, Korea, Malaya and Vietnam wars.
