Tasting of th e year

LE MONTRACHET is the 7.99ha Burgundian Chardonnay vineyard that produces the world’s greatest dry white wines.

There are many owners - some having over 1.7ha and some having just a short row of vines.

There were two Le Montrachet tastings in Perth this year, Australia's most comprehensive yet.

The first tasting was of 15 Le Montrachets and the second of 11 - each spanning eight vintages and five producers.

The first was a landmark event with Moss Wood’s Keith Mugford in summary stating that the wines lived up to or exceeded their unmatched reputations.

The second dinner, hosted by Tyson Stelzer (Winepress.-com.au - and who is one of Australia’s youngest, most serious and greatest wine writers) was absolutely extraordinary. The wines shone and the evening was one of Australian wine’s finest ever. Yep, but at $1150 per person, $900 to $1900 per bottle, it should have been!
