Been there, Dunne that
A KEEN debater and public speaker at school, Joshua Dunne (17) now has his sights set on studying law.
The Hale School graduate blitzed his Year 12 exams, scoring an impressive 99.85 ATAR, which earned him a General Exhibition Prize. Hale received the most General Exhibitions of any school in WA.
The Dalkeith resident also received a University of WA Fogarty Scholarship, which will cover $10,000 per year of his tuition fees for the duration of his degree.
Joshua plans to study a Bachelor of Philosophy and is keeping an open mind about what branch of law to focus on.
He received a perfect score of 100 for English Literature and was music captain at Hale. Joshua said his two favourite subjects at school were Music and English Literature.
“Year 12 was fairly stressful; it’s high stakes,” Joshua said.
“Doing co-curricular activities would keep my mind off the stress of exams.
“I didn’t go to bed too late and I would take time to listen to music before bed or play an instrument. That helped me relax.”
Joshua had some words of wisdom for Year 12s in 2015.
“I’m not sure there is a secret to doing well in exams, just study and ask teachers any questions you have,” he said. “Draw on your teachers.” Joshua said it was a huge surprise to find out he had been awarded the scholarship.
“I retained some hope but everyone I knew had applied for it, I thought ‘what hope do I have’,” he said.
“It’s an opportunity to meet like-minded people and it really opens doors.”
Hale School graduate Joshua Dunne (17) did extremely well in the 2014 WACE examinations.
