Club to step up for thong event

COTTES­LOE Surf Life Sav­ing Club nip­pers are gear­ing up to hit the wa­ter for the 10th Havaianas Aus­tralia Day Thong Chal­lenge and ben­e­fit from money raised.

Cottes­loe holds the record of 2099 peo­ple con­nected in the wa­ter on in­flat­able thongs and has won the Aus­tralia-wide com­pe­ti­tion for the past three years.

How­ever, North Bondi (NSW), Torquay (VIC), Glenelg (SA) and Mooloolaba (QLD) will be wran­gling to beat the WA record.

A third of ev­ery $30 reg­is­tra­tion fee will go to­wards the surf club’s nip­pers pro­gram and en­trants re­ceive an in­flat­able thong to keep.

Reg­is­tra­tions open at 8am on Mon­day, Jan­uary 26 and beach ac­tiv­i­ties start at 9.30am with the world record at­tempt hap­pen­ing at 11.20am.
