Club to step up for thong event
COTTESLOE Surf Life Saving Club nippers are gearing up to hit the water for the 10th Havaianas Australia Day Thong Challenge and benefit from money raised.
Cottesloe holds the record of 2099 people connected in the water on inflatable thongs and has won the Australia-wide competition for the past three years.
However, North Bondi (NSW), Torquay (VIC), Glenelg (SA) and Mooloolaba (QLD) will be wrangling to beat the WA record.
A third of every $30 registration fee will go towards the surf club’s nippers program and entrants receive an inflatable thong to keep.
Registrations open at 8am on Monday, January 26 and beach activities start at 9.30am with the world record attempt happening at 11.20am.
Register at www.havaianas thongchallenge.com.au.
Aimee Irvine (9), Hayley Swaine (8), Emma King (10) and Mali Swaine (6) get ready for the Thong Challenge.
