New creative director a gem

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Business - By ROSANNA CANDLER

DESPITE growing up surrounded by jewellery, joining the family business didn’t occur to Linneys’ new creative director Justin Linney until after high school.

The 27- year- old, who launched the 2015 Beautiful Reflections Collection this month, said following his passion for design sparked a personal journey that culminated in taking over from father Alan as creative director last year.

“It was never really spoken about to join the family business, which is probably a good thing because I never had that pressure,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time for the business to transition from first to second generation.”

Mr Linney recently completed seven months at the Gemmological Institute of America, spending nine hours studying every day to achieve the 100 per cent score needed to qualify as a graduate gemologist.

“I immersed myself in the business and wanted as much experience in a short amount of time as possible,” he said.

“The greatest part is pushing the design envelope and working closely with clients to make their dream piece of jewellery.”
