Childhood dreams taking off

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Health -

JACK Pinner is on his way to fulfil his childhood dream of becoming a pilot.

The former Newman College student was one of 105 men and women across the country who took an oath and joined the Australian Defence Force last week, appointed to the Royal Military College Duntroon.

Mr Pinner has had an interest in joining the military for years.

He was told he needed to gain experience outside of school before enlisting, so he moved to Dubai where he studied commerce at Murdoch University, which runs courses there. He gave up university to travel through Europe and South East Asia for 18 months before returning to Australia to become a direct entry officer-pilot.

After the recruitment ceremony on January 13, Mr Pinner flew to the Royal Military College in Canberra. On completion of officer training he will start his flying training in Tamworth, NSW.
