City waits on market decision

THE Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority will consider the development proposal for a Coles and Target shopping precinct at Subiaco Station Street Markets this month.

City of Subiaco Mayor Heather Henderson said she hoped the State Government would soon approve plans for tented weekend markets down Rokeby Road to ensure “a smoother transition for current Station Street stallholders”.

“I expect to hear from the departments (Transport and Main Roads) very early on because the whole project hinges on the outcome of those two government entities,” Mrs Henderson said.

Chief executive Ian Hill said the City was working on a Memorandum of Understanding with Markets on Rokeby organisers Venn Property Group (VPG).

VPG director Evan Briers said he was putting together a detailed information pack.

“We are still seeking expressions of interest and working closely with council to give the details and sign off financially,” Mr Briers said.
