THE Boule­vard and Howtree Place in­ter­sec­tion in Floreat is be­ing up­graded af­ter it was iden­ti­fied as one of the most danger­ous in­ter­sec­tions in Cam­bridge.

A $500,000 grant for safety im­prove­ment works un­der the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment’s Blackspot Pro­gram has en­abled work to start on the busy in­ter­sec­tion.

Cam­bridge Mayor Simon Withers said the in­ter­sec­tion had been a con­cern for many years.

“The way peo­ple treat the in­ter­sec­tion makes it more danger­ous,” he said.

“Peo­ple might think th­ese changes aren’t sig­nif­i­cant but they are and have been as­sessed by road safety ex­perts to work.

“There is only so much money we can put to­wards road works.

There will be some dis­rup­tion to traf­fic as lanes are closed to fa­cil­i­tate the road works.

The Boule­vard and Howtree Place in­ter­sec­tion has been a con­cern for many years.
