Flying flag forWA at championships
THE WA under-15 girls hockey team finished first and the boys second at the Australian Indoor Championships in Victoria recently.
Claremont resident Emme-lotte Van Der Linden and Naomi Brown, of Swanbourne, were among the winners in the girls team.
Girls head coach Erin Judd said she was very happy with her team’s performance.
“We’re absolutely stoked with the result, it was a fantastic effort,” Judd said.
“The team gelled well together; they had no problem knowing where each other would be on the field.”
Wembley resident Alex Chain and Trenton Matthews, of Jolimont, were part of the boys team.
Boys head coach David Ogden said he was pleased with his team’s efforts throughout the tournament.
“The group exceeded expectations. The majority of the team hadn’t participated in a national indoor tournament before and to get that far and to compete aggressively in the way they did,” Ogden said.
“It was a great effort from the guys and they all worked well together. The tournament was huge in terms of their development as indoor hockey players.”
