Hall’s hoping to set the standard

IT was no surprise when Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys sold out their season of The Rhythm Spectacular - The Music of Beyonce at Fringe World last year.

Full of jazz, pizzazz and downright talented performers, the ensemble cast led by trumpeter and vocalist Adam Hall is back for more with The Rhythm Spectacular-TheMusicofLasVegas.

“It is the quintessential era that our band is about,” Hall said.

“Beyonce was a nice experiment in seeing whether you could rewrite versions and come up with an interesting way of presenting her music.

“But Vegas just speaks right to our band and is music that characterises exactly what we’re all about: the fun, the style and frivolity of it all.”

Hall said the production would cover standards by artists including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke and Ray Charles.

Audiences can expect everything from Mack the Knife, I’m Gonna Live Till I Die, Luck Be a Lady, Just a Gigolo and Hound Dog to showstoppers Viva Las Vegas and JailhouseRock.

“People will know the catalogue really well, which is the challenge, because when everyone knows the songs, they know when you make a mistake too,” Hall said. “It’s intricate and tricky and great to put yourself under that pressure to try and do something spectacular.”

Hall said the show would not be complete without their Las Vegas dancers, choreographed by Lexi Rollins.

“It’s a big production, with big dancing and even I might have a dance, depending on how well the show’s going,” he said.
