QUOKKA DEATHS INVESTIGATED
THE deaths of at least six quokkas on Rottnest Island is being investigated by police and the Department of Parks and Wildlife. Bodies of the small marsupials were found in plastic plant protectors at camp grounds on the island about 8pm on Monday. A police spokesman said it was believed the quokkas were put in the protectors in the past week when the camp was fully booked. Quokkas are protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950 and harming them attracts a fine of up to $10,000. Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 with information.
