EDUCATION Department director general Sharyn O’Neill has awarded the department’s first Exemplary Independent Public School award to Shenton College.

Ms O’Neill presented the award to principal Mike Morgan at the first assembly of the year last Friday.

Last year, Shenton College was selected as the subject of a study to identify how schools can make a positive difference to a children’s learning.

External principals and reviewers co-ordinated the study.

Ms O’Neill said she had 800 schools under her responsibility but it was Shenton College that was known for its innovation and focus on school leaders.

“We wanted to understand what your contributing factors for success were,” she said.

“Shenton stands out as a shining example. You have a culture of care, which is a fundamental part of a wellperforming school.”
