Western Suburbs Weekly - - Western Opinion -

THE pedestrian-friendly public space element of the new development at the Pavilion Markets site will bring some festival atmosphere back to Subiaco. Leederville will soon come to life with go-go dancers, Mt Lawley bulges at the seams for the annual Beaufort Street Festival and Claremont shuts Bay View Terrace to create some festive buzz each year. However, Subiaco has been devoid of a sizeable festival since its annual Christmas party was canned. The space will create opportunities to bring Subiaco to life without having to close main streets, even if it is just once a year. Done right, people who frequent the festivals of Leederville, Mt Lawley and Claremont might even venture down the train line to see what Subiaco offers. Debate about the height of the controversial development has to end. The decision has been made. Everyone – locals and neighbours – needs to find something good about this new venture to focus on now.
